Pub poker, the short version
Quick answers if you’re new to the Brisbane North scene.
- Where can I play live poker in Brisbane and South-East Queensland?
- There’s a game on almost every night across SEQ pubs and clubs — APL, NPL, KQP and independent leagues. The tournaments page lists every public game, with filters for day, suburb, distance and buy-in.
- How much does pub poker cost?
- Not much. Most regular weekly games are $10–30 to buy in, often with optional rebuys and add-ons, and some nights are points-only with no entry fee. Each tournament page shows the exact buy-in plus any rebuy/add-on amounts.
- What’s the difference between APL and NPL?
- Both are Australia-wide pub poker leagues that run seasonal points races leading to cash finals. APL skews shorter blind structures with bigger weekly fields; NPL runs longer, slower-paced games. Browse the organisers page to compare schedules in your area.
- Can I just turn up to a pub poker game?
- Yep, just turn up. Registration opens 30–60 minutes before cards in the air, and most games are first-come, first-served — though a few venues cap seats, so check the listing or call ahead if in doubt.
- How do points and final tournaments work?
- Most leagues track points across a quarterly season. Top performers qualify for end-of-season finals with bigger prize pools — sometimes cash, sometimes paid entry to bigger live events. Specifics vary by league; the organiser page links to their own season rules.
